What Backup, Download, and Complete Mean

On Home, the left side is the local Photos library and the right side is the current storage target. Which side you check decides the action.

Updated July 17, 2026

Read the two sides

  • Connect a Node and wait for the remote index sync to finish.
  • Each row represents a month.
  • The left cell is the local Photos month.
  • The right cell is the same month on the current storage target.

Choose the action

  • Check only the left local month to run Backup. This writes local original photos and videos to the Node.
  • Check only the right remote month to run Download. This imports backed-up items from the Node into Photos where possible.
  • Check both sides of the same month to run Complete. Complete backs up first, then downloads remote-only items.
  • If the local source is a specific album, remote-side selection may be disabled. Switch back to all Photos when you need Download or Complete.

Execute and monitor

  • After selecting months, tap Execute.
  • Review the confirmation sheet. It shows how many months will run as Backup, Download, and Complete.
  • Confirm to start.
  • During execution, use the bottom panel to pause, resume, or stop. Finished months are not rerun when you resume.
