Can Live Photos Be Backed Up and Restored?

Back up Live Photos like other months. Watermelon Backup stores the still image and paired video resources when they are available.

Back up Live Photos

  • Connect the Node you want to use.
  • If Live Photo originals may only be in iCloud, turn on Allow iCloud Photo Access first.
  • On Home, check the local-side months that contain Live Photos.
  • Tap Execute and run Backup or Complete.
  • Watermelon Backup stores the still image and paired video resources when they are available.

Restore Live Photos

  • Reconnect the Node that contains the backup.
  • Wait for the remote index sync to finish.
  • Check the remote-side months you want to restore, or check both sides to run Complete.
  • Tap Execute and confirm.
  • Watermelon Backup uses the Photos import path for paired resources.

What can affect the result

A Live Photo needs its expected still image and paired video resources. If one side is missing, changed, or unavailable from iCloud, the restored result may differ. Backup is based on original resources rather than a converted preview, and metadata is preserved as far as the source files and Photos import path allow.
