Back Up iPhone Photos to Dropbox

Sign in to Dropbox, let Watermelon Backup verify its app folder, then run Backup from Home.

Updated August 14, 2026

Prepare Dropbox

  • Use a Dropbox account with enough available storage.
  • Watermelon Backup uses Dropbox App Folder access. Backups are stored in Dropbox/Apps/Watermelon, and files outside that folder are not accessible to the app.
  • The app requests account_info.read, files.metadata.read, files.content.read, and files.content.write.

Add the Dropbox Node

  • In Watermelon Backup, choose Add Dropbox.
  • Tap Sign in to Dropbox and finish authorization.
  • After sign-in, Watermelon Backup verifies the app folder and write access.
  • Save the Node and select it on Home.
  • Wait for connection and remote index sync to finish.

Run the backup

  • Grant Photos access if needed.
  • Check the local-side months you want to back up.
  • Tap Execute and confirm the task.
  • Keep the network stable while large videos or many items upload.

Account and limits

Watermelon Backup does not store your Dropbox password or a client secret. The refresh token is stored in iOS Keychain, the saved account ID is used for account verification, and short-lived access tokens stay in memory.

Availability depends on Dropbox authorization, quota, rate limits, account state, and network connectivity. If authorization expires or is revoked, sign in again from the Dropbox Node settings.
