Prepare the SFTP server
- Prepare the host, port, username, and target directory.
- Use password authentication or an OpenSSH Ed25519/RSA private key. Passphrases are supported.
- Make sure the account can create folders and upload files in the target directory.
- Be ready to verify the SHA256 host-key fingerprint during Test Connection.
Add the SFTP Node
- In Watermelon Backup, choose Add SFTP.
- Enter the server, authentication, and target path information.
- Tap Test Connection and confirm the host-key fingerprint if prompted.
- Save the Node after the connection test succeeds.
- Select the Node on Home.
- Wait for connection and remote index sync to finish.
Run the backup
- Grant Photos access if needed.
- Check the local-side months you want to back up.
- Tap Execute and confirm the task.
- Use Pause, Resume, or Stop from the bottom panel if needed.
Compatibility
Watermelon Backup supports modern SSH algorithms and includes compatibility retries for some older servers. Very old servers that only support CBC, 3DES, or diffie-hellman-group1 are not supported.
